Sure, it sounds good! We are all taught to talk things over to solve problems and disagreements! Mom and Dad taught us all to do that. The problem is, they were not talking about maniacal terrorists. Please ‘Majority of Americans”, leave this to the experienced professionals, you know, like the decorated POW and war hero John McCain who actually truly understands the implications of effective diplomacy.

But the US already has a known force capability, so the impact is a foregone conclusion. Therefore, talks already have the strength of possible action.

With some enemies, talk may well be fruitless. But why not at least start there? I see little downside in beginning with a more mature approach to foreign relations…

The Holy See has been doing that for the last century, without too much impact. Without military strength, or deterrence, talks are meaningless. With enemies, the only viable approach is: you listen or else.
