I’m not really a short term thinker either, and completely agree with the
changing hearts idea. In fact, though my initial essays reflect a sense of
urgency and action (which I feel is necessary to shake things up and get the
ball rolling), many of my posts will deal precisely with the concept of
enveloping the long view when creating any massive policies or social
changes.

If you like what you’re reading,
feel free to send others to my site. If anything is to change, the more
people who can recognize the problems and then act to solve them, the
better.

The parties must be changed slowly from within. To abandon them completely, especially since we are such a small portion of their membership, would be ineffective. Our absence would not matter to those who direct the party’s platforms. Neither would our positions be acknowledged by the ‘average’ voter. too many of them simply pull the lever for the party that they think they support, regardless of the positions of the candidates. Our opinions would be of even less value to such people (if they don’t care about their candidates positions, why care about the voices of dissenters like us?).
But, if we’re willing to work slowly to bring our ideologies into the platforms we have a better chance of correcting some of the problems. But this too is a problem that will have to be dealt with by our children. long term solutions usually require such patience.
