CyberCelt- Thanks for dropping by. I agree that the consumer side of environmentalism is moving the process forward. It’s a shame we don’t have the backing of a responsible government behind us.

Chandira- Yes, every small step does help. I’ll try to check out the link. Thanks.

Jon- Yes, I am the big fomenter of discord,a ren’t I? What, exactly, is BUsh doing for the average citizen that can be considered positive? Suree, he’s helping his corporate buddies, but what about the average Jane or Joe?

I’ve offered my thoughts at this site several times, and the last post in thsi block even offers practical, happening today solutions that I support. Did you even get that far? Nothing tax raising or pie in the sky about what those municipalities are doing right now.

Consumers do help, but their desire is often ignored by the businesses who own the government and push progress at their preferred pace- that of a snail.

Me4- Blood money, brother. I prefer to sleep at night.

Avg Pat- Thanks for coming over from BIO. As always, you offer a lot to think about!

Big D- Do you always make such erroneous presumptions or is this some kind of special gift for me? Read some more before you make such conclusions.

Good piece! I see there are some who disagree abd as usual will never get it and that is only one of our numerous problems! However, this is what I put together as the unbiased facts of our oil situation.
Alaska Pipeline allowed to corrode! oil prices skyrocket! This is really why!

As BP shuts down its corroding pipelines in Alaska’s North Slope, some analysts are wondering why the problem wasn’t caught sooner and say that the company’s problems foreshadow a larger mess with the world’s aging oil infrastructure.
“It was almost guaranteed to happen,” said Charles Clusen, director of the Alaska project for the Natural Resources Defense Council. “These companies have not been putting the money into infrastructure up there.”
The action shuts in 400,000 barrels of oil, or 8 percent of U.S. domestic production, at a time when tight supply and surging demand have magnified the effects of geopolitical tensions.
http://money.cnn.com/….

The government Tuesday raised its forecast for the average price of oil in August by $3 a barrel, citing July’s heat wave and decreased production from the closure of BP’s oilfield in Alaska’s North Slope.
The news caused a bump in oil prices, The energy agency also said things won’t get any better for consumers in the short run.
“Significant relief from the high crude oil and gasoline prices is not likely to occur soon,” the report said. “The current tight market must also cope with strong gasoline demand, which typically reaches its seasonal peak in August, and the traditionally more active months of the hurricane season.” http://money.cnn.com/….

I am sick of being lied to and scammed! Now I will explain how and why will scare you!
these oil companies drilling here have no motivation to put money into preventive maintenance. Quite the opposite in fact! You’ll understand why! More digging for oil will now be supposedly justified! More of you tax dollars will be asked for by oil companies for superstructure updates and to expedite the repairs but you can bet your coast will not go back down!
$5 per gallon at the pump is coming rapidly closer and will be a reality as that is the magic figure needed to make America oil independent! $5 per gallon at the pump is where the price has to be before it is economically profitable to capture Canadian oil sand and America’s shale oil. http://www.dailykos.com/….
* America alone has more oil reserves than the entire world combined!
* Think about this too! Maybe that is why Bush is not concerned with destroying the middle east?
** In the end result, this is why there is no real effort for a viable alternative for oil and Bush once again is merely lying about his efforts, concerns, and desires. This is just one more of the erroneous facades of concern in Bush’s politics of Deception!

Can someone loan me a bunch of money so that I can invest?

You all complain the Bush and the government isn’t doing enough, but when he does you basically saying he doesn’t really mean it.

It wasn’t rhetoric, it was what he thinks we should be doing to reduce our dependency on oil. I don’t hear you coming up with a better idea. Lets hear your idea to help reduce our dependency on oil that doesn’t involve rasing taxes to pay for some ridiculous pie in the sky proposal or demand that the Oil companies stop producing so much oil.

We don’t need the government sticking it nose in the business of businesses to fix things, all we have to do as consumers is exert enough pressure on the market and the adjustments will be made.

Haven’t seen it yet, but I will. Rotten tomatoes gives show times and locations, if you want to see it.

If you copy and paste the url into your browser, I put in a break after ‘.com’, so it wouldn’t screw up the comments format. (it does that on my blog if people post long urls.)

yeah, this is disgusting, but at least today the senate voted no on the tax break for the super-rich! A small step in the right direction..

Small, fuel-efficient cars are what is being searched for on the major auto makers websites.

Toyota just passed Ford to become #2 in USA auto sales. Chrysler has record levels of inventory sitting around even with the employee pricing.

Who Killed the Electric Car?
An Inconvenient Truth

have helped, but I think the $3+ per gallon gas has pushed the inertial mind of the masses toward green thinking.

Heck, we even have a strong biodiesel initiative and tax rebates for alternative energies in TEXAS.

Things are going to happen quickly now. Thank God! We have lost so much ground from the 1980s when alternative energies and environmnetal stewardship were first viewed as viable options.

Good luck on your campaign. We are trying to elect a Jewish Cowboy, ex-songwriter, ex-writer, named Kinky to the Govenor’s Mansion. I do not think we have a hope in hades, but I think it will make people think…
