Yes, facing death is always a complete shock, even if you’re somewhat expecting it, you’re never entirely ready.

I don’t believe in an afterlife as such, certainly not as described by the world’s organised religions, although when my aunt died a few years back from cancer, there were enough strange occurances and odd synchronicities to make me wonder..
If you think about it, all those tales of people coming back after near death experiences, they don’t complete the journey, they come back, so who really knows? But I do know something profound and ecstatic happens to people, I’ve experienced that a lot when loved ones have died. I have been given a gift in this life of being able to contact the recently dead, and guiding them by feeling, to the state that lies at the core of things, unconditional love and peace.
It becomes apparent to me, that what happens is they ‘dissolve’ back into that Ultimate Happiness, the Source, whatever you happen to want to call it. The mind and personal ego identification and self image is all let go of, happily. Like putting down a real burden, and they end up as Love, God, Consciousness, Self, the Light.
I’m sure your dad is no different , and is resting there in that place right now.
