The feeling that your story gave me stayed with me all day. The adventure you and your daughter shared is the best of all adventures. What a teriffic day. I have had some of those special times with my husband and the kids and I treasure the memories.

I think too, that getting lost or being forced to change plans (or modes of transportation in your case) often happens for a reason. You never know what kind of gifts may be in store for you…but you have to be wise enough to recognize them, which you are.

Sorry all for the delayed response. Many fires going these days…

Windspike- I just widh they made it easier to get from point to point once the big trip is over. That is my biggest frustration with the mass transit system in places like this where the plan is hodge podge at best. Sure I can take the train into the city for work, but how can I easily get from train station to work? While mass transit in theory is great, unless it’s thought out clearly, it’s a lot of expense for a small return.

Portland Oregon has a great system. It should be a model for others.

And thank goodness for pedicabs!

Ave Pat- Thanks for the great comment. I tried to explain this from my point of view when I first began this blog- Paine and his 18th century blogging were an inspiration.

Chandira- I try hard not to be so gloom and doom with my politics, but I don’t pull any punches either. The system is FUBAR and in dire need of an overhaul. It becomes apparent in all things government touched it seems, from the small towns on up.

Yes, focussing on the problems of the world only reinforces them in ourselves sometimes, you know?
I stopped the political blogging myself last year for that reason, I was finding too much negativity in what I was writing. I didn’t have the skill you have in making an interesting positive post out of it. I was just getting sucked into the black hole.

I don’t have any input on it but you will find this interesting. First I want to wish you all the luck in the world in your run for Congress. I wish I could vote for you.
Now what I wanted to say. The name of your site is something I have written about many times. As you know, it is rarely displayed today particularly in politics.
When I was researching my first book about America and what was behind the mentallity in its founding I finally figured out why I was so different to most and I couldn’t understand why people couldn’t see or believe what to me seemed obvious and the truth and finally got it.
Of course the enlightenment had a great influence on the founding of America and I was surprised to find out Born Again Christians were the ones that instigated action against what they considered Godless Brits. But enough of that.I hate to mention that with Bush today having perverted the ters fundamentalist and democracy!
What intrigued me was in researching Thomas Jefferson I finally learned about myself.
Three things he said in regards to common sense in what I read.
Common sense he said was attained instantly as soon as you became a member of society. Also that yo would then do the right thing for that society and not yourself. Thirdly, that common sense was the same whether you were a farmer or a Statesman.
None of this is true today! We must get back to this principle!
Principle! That leads me to why I could never get people to understand and agree on the truth.
Jefferson said that if you think you are going to argue with someone until they understand, forget it you are wasting you breathe. You must have the same principles first!
People, not all people, seem to be severly lacking in solid principles. It is all pervasive and really shines in many of our so called political leaders.
They and people today have forgot what it is like to do the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing.
People, especially politicians, often think the right thing is what is right for them and that is a big part of our problem today.
Too much lying, too much immorality all throughout society and today it starts from the top with Bush and trickles all the way through society including the legal system of course.
One last thing! We are no longer a Government of the people for the people, by the people, facilitated by society.
We are in fact a Government of the polititions, fro the wealthy, by the legal system, all facilitated by the media.
We have to put we the people and society back into the equation of our Government!

Nice story and I love the bicycle cab solution…that must have been the best mode to use.

Up here we use public transit all the time…it is indeed a great way to get around a big city, and it saves gas. But lately, I’ve taken to using my bike to pick up my son at pre-school. We both wear helmets and he loves it…and it is faster than any other way to get there, period. All around a big win for us in a large number of ways.

Oh, I knew you would find a way to insert the politics into this post…all good points. Blog on brother, blog on.
