orikinla- i suppose i agree to a point, at least with regards to the application in a civilian world. but in the military context, simply losing confidence and disobeying has more serious consequences, which is why so many military members just follow the orders, even when the orders may be faulty.

thanks for the comment.

Chris- Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Things that need fixing in a democracy are fixable, but only if the people speak out, vote, and refuse to be brainwashed.

Jolly-Boy, wouldn’t a new pool of Bonus Marchers really say something about the government today? Of course, even if millions camped out in DC, this administration would likely find a way to slander them to their base, referring to them as disloyal Americans who only joined the service for the free benefits.
It’s not for nothing that the two charities I support the most are the Paralyzed Vets of America and Disabled American Veterans. These folks deserve our support, even if they were sent out to fight the wrong fights.

Windspike- The chain that is America is definitely weakening, both from apathetical citizens and corrupt leadership. I didn’t specifically name names…there are too many who are deserving of disdain. Thanks for the comments.

Uncooperative- For shorter sound bites, listen to talk radio.

I kept thinking of the tired slogan, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And most certainly, when that link is the one closest to the top, the ship may leave the dock with the rest of the chain drowning in the water.

Were you thinking of the Big Dick Cheney when you said: “And its time to turn out from office those hypocrites who pretend to love the military, when in fact their only love is the turmoil caused by war and the profits it reaps for their benefactor corporations?”
With the W, Rove and Co. House of Cards tumbling from the top, it is difficult not to point fingers.

The last thought I had about your whole chain of command commentary was whenever I try to get assistance via telephone for tech support and spend an hour talking with someone from India and getting bumped up the chain, I think it would be supremely refreshing if we started at the point where we were able to get answers rather than having to get shovled up or down the line or that the whole point of the chain of command was to make the complainant go away.

Sorry there are no real words of wisdom, only further questions, in this comment.

The very real possibility of a new pool of “Bonus Marchers” should deter the disconnected cowards in Washington from their promise-breaking, but it doesn’t. The despicable bait and switch being pulled on the Troops! the wingerbots Support! so much should shame them and propel them to demand that their leader fulfill the promises made to the GIs, but apparently I have always been 100% correct in my assessment that wingerbots are basically shallow, self-serving people who talk a good game and then do nothing when the time comes for action. Like their leader, they only care about themselves.

If we don’t start taking care of these guys and gals, we get whatever we deserve. As a former soldier and the son of a disabled vet, I cannot tell you how much it incenses me that people think that Supporting The Troops! means slapping a yellow car magnet on their Excursion.

I suggest, for those who are curious, learning the story of the Bonus Marchers. And be aware that we are creating a new pool of them right now, the same way we created the last bunch-through broken promises.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism is what I believe Thomas Jefferson once said.

“Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it.” –Thoreau

My trouble is that I can see a lot of the ills in our government, but I can’t see a feasible way of fixing things. That thought gives me a headache.

Peace,
Chris

In the command structure, everything depends on the rule of engagement. And every assignment/engagement is based on the contract. Even, citizenship is a contract between the citizen and the state. And if the state fails to live up to our expectations, the command structure often collapses. When the disappointed citizen loses confidence in the government, the citizen will likely disobey the statutes of the command structure.
