And, you can google the info, but Henry Ford built experimental car bodies out of plastic made from soy & hemp.

Windspike- All of the points that you make will be addresses in my up coming posts for this category. Not only do we need to develop and utilize more types of energy, but we need to have some serious changes in our attitudes towards our planet and our own expectations. But we still need to have a government that addresses the needs of all people and not just their benefactors in big business.

Thanks for the comments.

ShaeNC- Thanks for the link to the Vegetable Oil Energy site. Very interesting and goes to show that all of our options haven’t been tapped yet. I look forward to exploring these topics in upcoming posts.

As for the power of the electorate, it does exist…we just need for people to wake up and not buy all the sound bites.

After the last two elections, my faith in that is shaken, if not crushed. I hope I live to see the ligitimacy of voting restored (the whole voting thing is one of the main reasons I started blogging). Sorry to digress from the main theme of your post here… In regards to that, I support the development of clean, sustainable alternative energy sources, especially those which convert our piles of waste and refuse into useable energy. I would even support nuclear (or “nukular” in republican) energy if it were developed to be safe.

By the way, are you familiar with this stuff?

I have a friend that works at GE Wind – which is, I am told, just a shell company for GE to wash capital – but the idea is a good one, or at least the use of naturally driven turbines that produce energy (even using tidal currents).

2) The standards by which we live and come to expect are driven largely by a commodities and consumptive mentality. We might do well to take a lesson or two from “second” and “third” world countries on what should be considered values in our society. Reducing consumption can become very personal, and liberating. Enjoying the company of individuals (actually conversing) as opposed to sharing mutual space (i.e. watching a movie) can lead to better community. If those that live in sunnier climes each installed solar power, we could effectively increase the power grid and sources and not rely on Enron type energy brokes to manipulate our black outs.

3)Govenment, in the end, tends to spend cash in ways it can bend the public. It is time for us to take back our governments and not allow them to attach riders to resource allocation bills that eliminate parklands.

And, most certainly, we can vote the bastards out – but what happens when the slippery folks get appointed on their own (e.g. 2000, or CA with their Governator)?
