(responses)

Windspike- Your ideas are intriguing and certainly woth exploring and integrating into our educational system. They also fit in nicely with my essay regarding public service. (See Freedom Isn't Free in this blog)

Todd- Unfortunately, todays parents are just mimicking what they learned from their parents with regards to raising children who show respect and responsibility. That of course makes the problem all the more difficult to resolve. But with will and reason, it can be done.
Work ethic would be just one of many benefits we could realize. Thanks for dropping by.

Amen, my righteous brother. I dated a teacher for two years and witnessed several lambastings from parents who find it convenient to blame the teacher, when no effort is being put forth at home to reinforce what the child was exposed to on a particular day. I completely agree that we are now a spoiled nation, who expect things when and where we want them, and nothing short of that will do. I am fortunate to have been raised by sensible parents who taught me that nothing comes free. Leisure time is not leisure unless you work for it. Teach this to our children and watch the American work ethic we used to be famous for, return.

Excellent post.

Fantastic post Ken. Educators are all around us and like the "Way of the Peaceful Warrior," perhaps we should all ask ourselves, are our lessons worth learning/teaching to others?

when a parent lies to support the slacking off or the missing of class time by their child, what is it that the child learns? Children do learn what they live.

That said, there is a longer and more complicated societal solution to the problem. I have posted my thoughts and linked up with you today on my blog.

Blog on brother.
