(responses)

First- sorry for the long delay in posting my responses to you each.

Shea- Yes, that line can come in handy in lot's of cases.

Shane- Then why not help elect independents? C'mon, find one or run yourself. Start a groundswell.

Floyd- Glad to have you back. As with most things, this whole body armor problem is likely about money- somebody who bankrolled a campaign isn't getting a contract they want yet, so therefore, no armor for anyone. At least, that's one possibility...

Bob P- You are welcome, as always.

TWECHO- Don't we all...and I'm not giving up. I may not win a seat in Congress, but now that I'm speaking, it'll be hard to stop.

BonJ- Always good to hear from you. Nice to have you all 'shouting from the rooftops' with me.

Kathryn- Thanks. I hope to.

Thanks for synopsizing what's happening. Great points! You made me think of Al Franken, he was on the Colbert Report recently, and they made a great spoof out of callers repeatedly asking Al "why he hates the troops". Of course, the people they were really making fun of would never get the joke. The offenders don't mind being insulting, which is in itself disturbing. We common-sense-minded people really must band together and be tenacious in our outward conviction that we DO love America, we DO support our troops (regardless of how we feel about the administration), we have a RIGHT to each constitutional freedom of this land, and we WILL demand that our government keep it's promises. This is our country, the neocons don't have any more "claim" to Americanism than any of the rest of us. All the bullies should just go to the end of the line.

And as for the body armor... in Vietnam, I'm sure you've heard stories about how the M-16's were so faulty that soldiers and Marines alike asked family members to send them GUNS. And THEY DID. That's how badly our government took care of our guys then, so this isn't new. Can you imagine how many more Americans would have been lost back then if they were unable to accept help from their families, and protect themselves? But so many rules have changed since then (i.e. gov't approved embedded media & NO independent journalists EVER), I'm sadly not surprised that today they aren't allowed to try to save their own lives in anything "unapproved" by the powers that be. Why should the government be concerned with the real needs of the troops? Apparently they can sleep ok at night. Maybe they're just trying to prepare our troops for their return, when they'll be even more overlooked and their needs will again fall on deaf ears, as Veterans.
(this cynicism is contagious, I got it from the gov't.)

I wish all Americans could hear these types of comments on the major news networks everday. Your message should be shouted from every street corner. Most of us live our lives in our own "little worlds." It's so much easier that way. You and other individuals who are willing to serve this country need to be given the opportunity. Unfortunately, the "system" is set up to prevent "outsiders" from upsetting the status quo. Don't give up, we need you.

Ken,

As always, you've calmly, rationally, and eloquently summarized the feelings of all of us who are depressed and frightened at the changes we see taking place in our society. Thanks for another wonderful post.

I agree with Shane, great post as usual Ken I lost you for awhile and had to do some updating on my blogroll. May I add something if I may? It concerns the body armor situation with our troops; Today I got a snippet on Netscape and blogged it over at Within reason,to make a long story somewhat short,it seems the (Army) is not allowing our troops unapproved body armor now? Such as the Dragon Skin, but it has been tested I have that link also. It seems that the families and others such as teambio,on buying of body armor is trying to help our troops and they are. The point I'm getting to is this; ANY body armor no matter what it is,is better than nothing at all it is just another big beaurocratic mess, the Dragon Skin has actually had a field same by stopping 3 rounds of 3.62,that seems pretty impressive to me. I just wanted to put this out there to see what you think????

Wow, I got here first! All excellent points, but my favorite is the one about "there is no __________ in the constitution." What a great way to counter the silly rhetoric that so often tries to muddy the waters with poorly planned interpretations of the constitution.
